There are many influences for K-12 teachers and students to use technology in the classroom. Technology has become widespread amongst schools, especially within the classroom. It has evolved to where almost every classroom uses some sort of technology. This has changed how teachers teach and how students learn. Technology has enabled students to learn more and retain more information. It can be used to play educational games, watch supplemental videos, or finding other resources to help benefit the students. It also motivates students to learn and provides them with a means to learn at their own pace.

I believe that the most meaningful ISTE Standard for Educators is the learner. This standard is about the endless enhancements that can be done by learning from and with others to better improve student learning. With the use of technology being so prominent, it is important for K-12 educators to be up to date on their own learning in order to effectively teach their students. This includes setting learning goals and actively participating in learning networks. There is always more to be learned, especially with technology.

A "digital native" is a phrase used to describe someone that was born during the time when digital technology was already around. These types of people are basically born in the age of technology, they are born with the knowledge. I agree with the term "digital native," like a "native speaker" they are born growing up with technology being their first language. I feel like my generation of people have grown up in a time where technology has become the core of our classroom. During my time in elementary school and middle school, we used smartboards in the classroom and had PC computers to use in the computer lab. However, now beginning elementary school, students have access to tablets and computers within their own classrooms that have become an everyday part of their routine. The teachers are the ones teaching the students how to use the technology, however, I think that the students catch on and learn faster than the older teachers being taught how to use the technology first. I think with the everchanging technology the possibilities are endless with how technology will change in the classroom over the years. I am excited to learn about it as it comes about and being able to implement it into my own classroom so help my students.

  1. I really like how you said that the teachers teach the students, but the students catch on faster than when maybe some of the older teachers caught on when they were taught - I think that is a really good point! Do you like that the this new generation of students has so much more technology in the classroom now?

    1. I wouldn't say i like how so much technology is present in the classroom, but i do see the benefit of it being apart of their curriculum. Some things are better learned on paper, without the use of technology. But technology is definitely useful to practice their skills.

  2. Jordan, I agree that technology from what I can remember has been in my classrooms while growing up. I also agree that the technology that was used in the classrooms when I was in elementary and middle school has advanced a lot today in what they are using now in elementary and middle school. Students definitely do learn how to use technology fast because they are very used to it being present and I can only imagine how technology will develop in the classroom in the future.
